Senators Finally Getting the Idea?

Tonight, the Senate voted 71 to 28 to cut off extended debate on the border fence bill (hat tip Kausefiles). Recall that Senator Inhofe's National Language amendment passed this May, 63 to 34. Yet political consultants to Republican candidates keep telling their clients to shun these "divisive" issues.

Why it is somehow "smart politics" for politicians to refrain from doing the right thing which is also the popular thing remains a mystery. Note to candidates: just because you are paying someone for advice does not guarantee that his advice is any good.
