English First Members Survey Results For 2011
In December of 2010 all current English First members were mailed an official Members Survey asking for their views on the major issues confronting language policy in the United States. Once again, your response was overwhelming and the opinions enumerated are listed in the following report.
The first question listed on the survey concerned the legislative priorities of English First. Thirteen principal topics were specified and our members were asked to rank their top five choices where they felt English First should concentrate its resources in 2011. Many of our members stated that all of the thirteen issues that had been listed in the survey were of the utmost importance and they had a difficult time deciding which subjects were more vital than others.
Nevertheless, many members took the extra time to study the issues and list their preferences. The following are the top five legislative concerns that our members desire English First to concentrate on in 2011:
- Defeating amnesty for millions of illegal aliens.
- Repealing Executive Order 13166 which makes America officially bilingual.
- Repealing multilingual voting requirements such as bilingual ballots.
- Putting teeth into the English requirement for U.S. citizenship.
- Repealing those portions of Obama Care that mandate “language rights” that require all non-English speaking patients to have access to free translation services.
Following close behind the above topics our members listed supporting legislation such as
- Arizona’s H.B. 2281,
- Preventing Spanish-speaking Puerto Rico from becoming a state,
- Passing the English Language Amendment
- Promoting legislation that supports an employer’s right to require that English be spoken in the work place.
Question two on the survey dealt with the issue of blanket amnesty for millions of illegal aliens and the effect such an amnesty would have on our language, culture and heritage. Our members overwhelmingly oppose such an amnesty by 95% to 5%.
Question three asked our members if they agree with the provisions of ObamaCare that mandate “language rights” requiring every non-English speaking patient to have access to free translation services. English First members opposed such mandates by 96% to 4%.
Question four asked our members if they felt that current language policies serve to divide our country and militate against the unity of purpose that a nation requires in order to survive. English First members agreed by a 98% margin.
Question five concerned the federal government’s threat to sue businesses if they did not provide their services in every language requested by non-English speakers. Our members overwhelmingly oppose such requirements by 98% to 2%.
Question six dealt with the reauthorization of the bilingual education mandate. Our members overwhelmingly oppose the reauthorization by 97% to 3%.
Finally, question seven addressed the issue of bilingual ballots and services provided at polling places throughout the United States. Once again, English First members disagree with those policies by a 96% to 4% margin.
English First sincerely thanks all those dedicated members who took the time to complete their surveys. Our members have spoken and we intend to follow their advice and pursue policies that will restore our nation to its past greatness and reject the movement that would divide the American people based on language and multiculturalism.
In the months to come, you will be receiving reports listing the various pieces of legislation that English First supporters will have introduced into the new House of Representatives and Senate. We have high hopes that with the new composition of the House of Representatives we will be able to pass several pro-English bills. Thank you for your loyal support.
